Online & in person Counselling in bournemouth and poole.

Matt Harris

Integrative Counsellor - MBACP (Accred)

Welcome, I'm Matt and thank you for visiting MHTherapies.

I understand it can be hard to take that first step to get support, and find a therapist that you will feel comfortable with, to work through what is troubling you. I am an integrative therapist, a qualified and registered member of the BACP (Accredited) and am also registered with Psychology Today and the Counselling Directory. Working from Bournemouth and Poole, I help clients aged 18+, on a 121 basis, over a short term or longer term period of sessions.

Perhaps you know what it is that you need support with. Or are you feeling unsettled but not sure why? We will work together to explore what is happening for you, and help you to gain insight, understanding, and to try to find a way forward.

My approach is anchored in Person Centred Therapy, and I integrate other models of therapy including Gestalt, Transactional Analysis and Energy Psychology. I work collaboratively with you, focussing on what is most helpful for you, and tailoring sessions to help you get the most appropriate support.

Whilst it isn't for me to give you the answers, I will be alongside you, to help you to find those answers, empowering and supporting you along the way. My aim is to understand what is happening with you as much as I possibly can, and help you to gain insight of what is troubling you, and the clarity of what actions or changes to make.

As a Humanistic Counsellor, it is my belief that we all have the power and the resources within us to make the changes that are needed, but it is not always possible to tap into those on our own.

Counselling is time for you, to have support with what you are finding difficult, at the right pace for you. The priority will always be working in your best interests and sessions will be focussed on what you need at that time.

Building a strong therapeutic relationship is a key factor, along with it being the right time for you to start counselling. The process can be difficult at times, and you may experience unease and discomfort, but this can also be when real change will occur. I will be alongside you as we work with, and through, these difficulties together.

I aim to understand what is happening for you as fully as possible and be alongside you; to help you to explore your feelings, thoughts and emotions. Counselling can be a process of self discovery. Whilst it is not for me to diagnose or give you answers, I will help you to understand what’s happening and work to empower and support you, to find your way forward.

If that sounds like the kind of support you are looking for, please contact me to arrange an initial free, no obligation 15 minute phone call.

This will allow time for you to talk confidentially about what you need help with, and for both of us to see if we can work together.

We can then arrange an introductory session, with regular weekly or fortnightly sessions following this.

Speak in confidence

I offer a safe, calm, confidential and non-judgemental space to listen, to help and to support you. This is your time, to use as you need to. As we work together, we can focus on what is happening for you, to help bring awareness of issues, more understanding, and perhaps clarity of what changes you may need to make.

Short term therapy

Short term therapy covers between 6 - 12 weekly sessions. These sessions are more goal orientated and focus on what issues you are experiencing in the present moment. We work in a way that encourages you to find your solutions in a time limited way. There is then the option to move into longer term sessions if required.

Longer term therapy

Longer term therapy is an open ended agreement for weekly or fortnightly sessions. This allows more time to work through ongoing and more complex problems and issues. Sessions can continue over months and years, with regular review points to ensure that you are getting the support you need from your time.

“I worked with Matt for a number of sessions. Matt creates a very relaxed non-judgemental environment in which I felt free to explore the issues I wanted to overcome. Matt facilitated this exploration in a skillful manner to the extent I reached a positive outcome. I would highly recommend engaging Matt as a counsellor.”

“Matt helped me more than he could know. I had three big situations going on in my life causing me massive anxiety and stress and it was all so muddled in my head I felt like I was drowning. Through Matt's gentle but focused wondering and questions I was able get to the root of each issue and see them clearly, which enabled me to make the changes I could and see the issues as they really were. I can't thank him enough. My life seems so much lighter and positive. The effects have been wider than just the things I went to him to talk about. Thank you Matt, you're amazing.”
